Andrew MacDonald

Jude MacDonald

Jude MacDonald splits her time between Toronto and the former Huttonville, Ontario. She is the author of Jane (Mercury, 1999) and Grey (Arsenal Pulp, 2001), which she wrote when she was a “Judy.” She is working on a new collection of stories. Last updated Halloween, 2008.

David Macfarlane

Dave MacKinnon

Dave MacKinnon is the owner of the tiny, perfect Junkshop recording studio and is one half of the musical group Fembots. He produced all of the magazine’s audio projects, dating back to the The Taddle Creek Album, in 2000. Last updated fall, 2022.

Pasha Malla

Steven Charles Manale

Steven Charles Manale lives in Trinity Bellwoods. A regular contributor to Chickadee, Steven draws monsters and robots, for business and pleasure, respectively. He is the creator of the Ignatz Award–nominated kids comic strip, Superslackers. Outside of print, Steven prefers to be called “Steve.” Last updated summer, 2014.

Ruth Mandel

Jennifer Marston

Jennifer Marston lives in Sussex-Ulster, the official name for that neighbourhood sandwiched between Kensington and the Annex. She is a recovering lawyer and the past editor-in-chief of two legal periodicals. She now works as a freelance writer and dabbles in the book arts. Rachelle Maynard

Rachelle Maynard lives in the Annex. She has good hair. Her illustrations have appeared in such publications as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post. Last updated Christmas, 2006.

Suzette Mayr

Suzette Mayr is the author of four novels. Her most recent, Monoceros, won the ReLit Award and the W. O. Mitchell Book Prize, and was long-listed for the Giller Prize. Last updated summer, 2015.

Cory McCallum

Cory McCallum has been slaving away for little or no pay within the music industry for more than twenty years, amassing quite a catalogue of material no one has much time for. Since being headhunted for word-wrangling duties at PlierPants, in 2011, Cory and the inimitable Matthew Daley have collaborated on a number of projects that both challenge the conventions of comic-osity (and English!) and exorcise (exercise!) their own artistic hang-ups. Their first full-length comic book collaboration, The Pig Sleep, won the Gene Day Award for Self-Publishing at the 2013 Joe Shuster Awards. Cory lives in Orangeville, Ontario, with his wife and two kids (none of whom read his work or listen to his music). Last updated spring, 2014.

J. R. McConvey

Alison McCreesh

Alison McCreesh is a cartoonist, illustrator, and fibre artist from Chicoutimi, Quebec, now living in Yellowknife. She is the author of the graphic novel Ramshackle. Last updated summer, 2017.

Sophie McCreesh

Sophie McCreesh is a fiction writer living in Toronto. Her writing has appeared in Cosmonauts Avenue, Hobart, Bad Nudes, and Peach Mag. Her novel, Once More, With Feeling, was recently published. Last updated summer, 2021.

Judy McCrosky

Judy McCrosky, when not circumnavigating the globe, lives in Saskatoon. She runs a creative writing program for Holland America cruise line’s world tour, and is the author of four books, with a fifth due this fall. Last updated summer, 2010.

Rod McDonald

Rod McDonald lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He is a type designer and typographer who has produced typefaces that are sold worldwide by FontShop International and Agfa Monotype. He has also designed type for the range of Canadian periodicals, including Maclean’s, Chatelaine, Applied Arts, Saturday Night, and Canadian Business. Cartier Book, his reworking of Cartier, Canada’s first typeface, was chosen for inclusion in the Monotype Classics Library of typefaces. In 2002, he designed the magazine’s display typeface, TC Stillson, a modern recreation of Stillson, designed in 1899 by the renowned Chicago type foundry Barnhart Brothers & Spindler. Dakota McFadzean

Dakota McFadzean is a cartoonist whose work has appeared in The Best American Comics and Mad, and on Funny or Die. His books include Other Stories and the Horse You Rode In On and Don’t Get Eaten By Anything. He co-edits, with Andy Warner and d.w., the comics anthology Irene. He lives with his wife in Toronto, where he works as a storyboard artist for DreamWorks. Last updated winter, 2015–2016.

Cassidy McFadzean

Brian McLachlan

Brian McLachlan lives in the Grange Park area. He writes for Owl, writes and draws the cartoon The Princess Planet, for the Toronto Star, and has written for Vice. He is the author of the graphic novel No Dead Time (Oni, 2004). Last updated summer, 2005.

Leanna McLennan

Leanna McLennan is from Saint John, New Brunswick, lived most of her life in Toronto, and currently lives in New York. Her writing has appeared in the Antigonish Review, Broken Pencil, Fiddlehead, and Geist. She has performed in the Second City touring company and currently writes and performs comedy. Susana Molinolo lives between Little India and the Beach. She is a mom, wife, writer, and editor. Mary Ann Moore

Mary Ann Moore lives in Nanaimo, British Columbia. She facilitates Flying Mermaids, a women’s writing circle. Her poetry has appeared in the Church-Wellesley Review, Seeds, and Jones Ave. Last updated Christmas, 2006.

Nathaniel G. Moore

Nathaniel G. Moore lives in Christie-Ossington. His books include Wrong Bar (Tightrope, 2009) and Pastels Are Pretty Much the Polar Opposite of Chalk (DC Books, 2010). He also wrote the film Macho Girls, which was inspired in part by his short story “Savage.” He once held the record as the author most rejected by Taddle Creek. But not any more. Lisa Moore

Lisa Moore lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She is the author of three novels, Alligator, February, and Caught, and two story collections. Her latest book is the young adult novel Flannery. Last updated summer, 2017.

Jim Munroe

Jim Munroe has written graphic novels and prose novels praised by Pulitzer winner Junot Diaz and comics legend Neil Gaiman, and lo-fi sci-fi feature films applauded by Wired and the Guardian. His political video games have appeared at Sundance and Cannes, and he co-founded the world's first videogame arts organization. He was an Art Gallery of Ontario Artist-in-Residence in 2014. George Murray

George Murray lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He is the author of three books, including The Cottage Builder’s Letter (M. & S., 2001). His work has appeared in publications in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Last updated summer, 2006.

Terry Murray

Terry Murray has been a medical journalist for more than 35 years. She has held staff positions at Canadian Family Physician and the Medical Post, and been a consultant for the World Health Organization. She also writes about non-medical subjects, including architectural history. Her specialty is reclaiming forgotten lives, including those of Toronto sculptor Merle Foster, and Murray’s own parents and their contributions to the civil-rights movement in the nineteen-sixties. Her book about gargoyles and other architectural sculpture, Faces on Places: A Grotesque Tour of Toronto, won the 2007 Heritage Toronto Award of Merit. Last updated summer, 2018.
