Nothing: A Haiku

Summer, 2001 / No. 5

You look like a mirror

with a crack in it—

your mouth at two levels.

Like dusk, like an eclipse,

like drunken blinks—

darkness passes you over.

Night comes between us

at different speeds—

but always leaves without scars.

They say nothing’s perfect—

but that’s all I’ve ever been

good at anyway.
